New Delhi: Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal Sunday asked the construction industry to reduce import dependence, focus on clean and green construction, and build earthquake-resistant and modular in-frastructure.
“Our infrastructure will not be second best to anybody. It will truly be the best in the world, and for that, we have to re-duce our import dependency,” Goyal said at the inauguration of the first edi-tion of Chemicals & Allied Products Ex-port Promotion Council’s (CAPEXIL) Vibrant Buildcon 2025.
“We have to make high-quality sanitar-yware, furniture, plywood, chips of wood, solid steel and cement, most attractive
lighting, and energy-effi-cient air conditioners. Ev-erything we do will be best in class our elevators, es-calators, tiling, marble, car-pets, sound systems, acous-tics also could be better. There is no limit, except in our mind,” he said.
Noting that sectors in-cluding housing, infrastructure, commer-cial real estate, railways, airports, high-ways, and energy play a key role in boost-ing the country’s economic growth, Goyal said every element ranging from cement and electricals to security systems and au-tomation play a role in this ecosystem.
The minister said government initia-tives including setting up of 20 new smart industrial cities and 100 new in-dustrial plug-and-play hubs would help India become a $30-35 trillion economy by 2047 from $4 trillion currently.
