India Must Aim High, Pay Fair And Innovate Continuously: Piyush Goyal

India must set bold targets, ensure fair wages for its labour force and drive constant innovation to emerge as a global superpower, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Sunday.

India must set bold targets, ensure fair wages for its labour force and drive constant innovation to emerge as a global superpower, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Sunday, addressing CAPEXIL’s Vibrant Buildcon 2025 event.
Goyal urged stakeholders across the construction sector to adopt sustainable practices and reduce import reliance, stressing the need for clean, green, and resilient infrastructure. He called for greater adoption of modular designs and earthquake-resistant structures to support India’s growing urban and industrial needs.
Speaking on India’s progress in the construction ecosystem, the minister pointed to the role of Global Capability Centres and domestic manufacturing initiatives under the Make in India programme. He underlined the importance of integrated growth across sectors such as housing, transport, commercial real estate, airports, highways and energy.
Every element in this ecosystem, from cement and electricals to automation and security systems, contributes to India’s infrastructure momentum, he said.
Goyal credited the rapid pace of development to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing the construction of world-class convention centres like Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi during the pandemic. These venues have hosted high-profile events including the G20 Summit and Bharat Mobility, mentionigs India’s readiness to host global forums.
He mentioned a range of government initiatives including 20 new smart industrial cities, upgraded tourism infrastructure at 50 destinations, and 100 industrial plug-and-play hubs aimed at supporting manufacturing and investment. Goyal said such steps are crucial if India is to expand from a USD 4 trillion economy to USD 30–35 trillion by 2047, aligning with the nation’s development vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Mentioning the occasion of Baisakhi, Goyal reflected on the resilience of India’s farmers during the Covid-19 pandemic, noting the country’s ability to sustain food distribution month after month despite global disruptions. He connected food security to infrastructure growth, saying platforms like Vibrant Buildcon are essential for supporting urbanisation, housing access and more efficient logistics.
Goyal concluded by stating that India is now breaking silos, fostering collaboration, and reimagining the future through convergence of ideas. “Let there be no doubt—India will lead the world in growth, innovation, and inclusive development,” he said.
